Perfectsoftware provides meals to homeless through the open door shelter
Hr and payroll software company also donates groceries and other goods as part of local charity assistance program
Norwalk, CT – January 20, 2010 – PerfectSoftware, a leading provider of HR and Payroll software, has launched a sponsorship program designed to assist local charities, starting with the donation of funds, goods, and volunteers to the Open Door Shelter.
The Open Door Shelter, formerly the Norwalk Emergency Shelter, is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the complex needs of the homeless and working poor in the Norwalk community. On January 13, as its first sponsorship activity under the program, PerfectSoftware staff spent the day at the shelter preparing and serving food. In addition to volunteering its time and service, the company donated groceries and goods that helped feed hundreds of the shelter’s visitors. Located in downtown Norwalk, the Open Door Shelter offers safe, sanitary shelter care, food, clothing, and furniture to needy men, women, and families. Among its services, the Shelter provides transitional, affordable and permanent supportive housing and fosters residents’ growth toward independence and responsibility. Adults are assisted with job hunting and training and have access to treatment services and counseling.
The shelter also provides three meals a day year-round to needy families and individuals through its “Manna House of Hospitality” soup kitchen. Meals are available to community members and those receiving housing at the shelter. Given the current economic climate, charitable organizations face increasingly greater financial challenges despite being needed more than ever, with facilities frequently at full capacity. The Open Door Shelter’s soup kitchen serves more than 12,000 meals each month, up significantly from prior years. Unfortunately, financial struggles often affect charitable donations by individuals and corporations just when they are needed most.
“Homelessness is a pervasive issue across the nation and can get overshadowed by other issues during tough economic times,” said PerfectSoftware CEO Mike Gabriele.
“Sponsoring the shelter and other charitable organizations in the area will enable us to raise the awareness of critical causes like this, while supporting the efforts of local organizations to affect change.”
PerfectSoftware’s commitment to the Open Door Shelter not only provides critical aid in the form of material donations and volunteer work; it also acts as a call to action for other area businesses.
“We greatly appreciate PerfectSoftware’s contributions to our efforts,” said Carole Antonetz, executive director of the Open Door Shelter. “Because we rely heavily on the generosity of donors and volunteers to support our operations, we welcome support in any form from companies and individuals. Donating funds or goods, volunteering to cook and serve meals, or even helping us in the office are just a few ways to help make a difference in the lives of many.”
Through donations to the Open Door Shelter and other local charitable organizations, PerfectSoftware hopes to invoke the spirit of giving back to the community.
