Prior to selecting Criterion, CGS relied on an old fashioned paper filing system with carbon copies, and several Excel spreadsheets that required much duplication of data. This system was particularly time consuming and difficult to administer, with lots of redundant paperwork. Also, reporting and analysis of demographic data was nearly impossible – a scenario familiar to many middle-market organizations.
Solutions
CGS selected Criterion after evaluating five different HRIS packages. According to Dan Beards, Vice President of Human Resources at CGS -
“Other providers didn’t have everything that Criterion had - everything from one screen, easy to use, tight integration with our ADP payroll system. The one we chose had to be easy to use, but very powerful to create reports, manage benefits administration and lots of customization for CGS.”
After a while, Computer Generated Solutions recognized that government contracting could be a lucrative market for their expertise. However, federal and state agencies require contractors to have an affirmative action program in place, and be able to illustrate this program’s success through an accurate, detailed analysis of its workforce.
To compete for these contracts, CGS needed a customized affirmative action report that could be produced on demand from their Criterion HRIS. With that in mind, Dan Beards called up Criterion headquarters and spoke directly to our Senior Developer. This report, worth a $4,000,000 contribution to the bottom line of the organization, had to be submitted to the government agency within 3 days.
This analysis would have to be produced on demand, directly from Criterion, and include current, up-to-the-minute demographic data. As soon as this was decided, a Criterion Technical Consultant was immediately dispatched on the project for CGS. They chose an existing Criterion EEO report to modify, and using Seagate Crystal Reports, produced a customized report to meet CGS’ exact specifications.
Results
Ultimately, CGS won a government contract worth over 4 million dollars by utilizing the “intimate” level of service provided to Criterion clients. They were able to deliver a detailed affirmative action report needed in a timely manner to procure this important contract. In addition, CGS can now pursue other federal and state contracts, meeting the necessary reporting requirements. Time-critical issues such as producing reports no longer exist.
“I used to go into the payroll file to get salary info, and it took hours to create reports. With Criterion, I just press a button. When I call with a problem, it is worked on immediately until resolved. The support is very reliable, and it’s nice to know that your issue will be resolved, quickly.”
